Purple with a lustre that needs no help.

Mashru silk in deep purple, with a satin face that holds light like water. Small gold zari buttis are scattered across the body. A wide hot pink border carries gold zari florals and a fine temple-edge zigzag, and the pallu follows in pink and gold with geometric brocade and floral sprays.

A gold or champagne metallic blouse, as shown, lets the purple and pink hold their depth and picks up every thread of zari. Antique gold temple jewellery is the natural partner: a long haram, jhumkas, stacked bangles. Hair loose or softly pinned. For something cooler, an ivory blouse and pearl drops keep the colours calm.

• Dry clean only, to protect the satin lustre and the zari work.
• Store folded in a breathable muslin cloth. Avoid plastic covers, which can trap moisture.
• Keep away from direct sunlight for extended periods to prevent fading in the purple and pink.
• The satin face can snag. Avoid rough surfaces and sharp jewellery edges, and handle the zari border and pallu with care.
• Iron on a low setting on the reverse side with a pressing cloth. Do not iron directly over the zari.
• Avoid perfume and hairspray on the fabric, as they can dull the zari over time.
