Marigold, woven in silk.

Festival-morning yellow Mashru silk, warm and lit from within, with tiny gold zari buttis across the body. A wide rani pink border carries gold peacocks with orange, green and pink meenakari inlays among fine vines. The pallu turns fully pink, with large gold floral bunches rising from the hem.

Yellow and pink, the oldest pairing in the room. Seven yards, with a blouse piece attached.

A rani pink or deep red blouse echoes the border and keeps the yellow warm. Add long pearl strands, kundan, stacked glass and gold bangles, and a loose side braid. For a softer look, go ivory or champagne.

• Dry clean only, to protect the satin lustre, zari and meenakari work.
• Store folded in a breathable muslin cloth. Avoid plastic covers, which can trap moisture.
• Keep away from direct sunlight for extended periods to prevent fading in the yellow and pink.
• The satin face can snag. Avoid rough surfaces and sharp jewellery edges, and handle the zari border and pallu with care.
• Iron on a low setting on the reverse side with a pressing cloth. Do not iron directly over the zari.
• Avoid perfume and hairspray on the fabric, as they can dull the zari over time.
