Description

Black holds everything. Gold reveals it.

The body of this Banarasi Uppada silk is completely plain — deep, uninterrupted black that lets the silk speak entirely for itself. All that it holds back, the pallu releases: a dense all-over gold zari brocade that opens into a large central floral medallion, intricate and unhurried, the kind of work that takes months to plan and days to weave. A thin gold border traces the edges quietly throughout. Gold tassels at the close.

This is restraint as a design decision. The pallu is its reward.

Black accepts everything. Gold, as shown, is the natural anchor — a champagne or antique gold blouse lets the pallu command the drape. Pearl and gold jewellery worn long, as a necklace that draws the eye downward toward the pallu. Ruby or emerald earrings for colour contrast. Hair loose and easy — the saree holds the formality, you don't have to. This is the piece that travels from sangeet to reception without asking permission.

Care Instructions

  • Dry clean only — Uppada silk and the dense gold zari pallu both require professional care.
  • Store folded in a breathable muslin cloth. Do not use plastic covers — moisture can damage both the silk and the zari work.
  • Keep away from direct sunlight for extended periods; black silk can develop a subtle sheen change with prolonged UV exposure.
  • Handle the gold zari pallu and medallion with particular care — the density of the zari work makes it susceptible to snagging.
  • Do not iron directly on the zari pallu. If required, steam lightly from a distance or iron the plain body section only, on reverse, with a pressing cloth.
  • Store gold tassels carefully, wrapped in tissue, to prevent tangling or fraying.
