The body is evenly woven black and cream checks, without a stray thread. A wide red border carries gold and silver zari paisleys, with a narrow pink edge beside it. The pallu turns pink and copper, dense with brocade and striped zari, before the check returns to close it.

Quiet where it begins, certain where it ends. Seven yards, with a blouse piece attached.

A solid red blouse picks up the border and keeps the check clean. Pair it with oxidised silver: a layered choker, stacked bangles, bird-motif earrings, and a loose bun. For something quieter, go plain black and let the check lead.

• Dry clean recommended to preserve the handloom weave and the zari work.
• If hand washing, use cold water and a mild detergent. Handle gently, do not wring, and wash separately for the first time as the red and pink may release colour.
• Store folded in a breathable muslin cloth. Avoid plastic covers, which can trap moisture.
• Keep away from direct sunlight for extended periods to prevent fading.
• Iron on a low setting on the reverse side with a pressing cloth. Avoid direct contact with the zari border and pallu.
• Handle the tassels gently to prevent tangling or fraying.
